Lumineers vs. Dental Veneers
Patients frequently ask us why they should pick Lumineers over the more common dental veneers. The answer is relatively simple. When dental veneers are placed, there’s a need to scrape away a portion of your dental enamel to make space for the veneers. Virtually, what you are doing with dental veneers is disbanding the naturally occurring enamel so that they can lay flat without making your teeth appear overly large. The main challenge with this process is that veneers permanently alter your teeth. You will always need a dental restoration in order to protect them once the enamel is gone. Concurrently, this process can be incredibly uncomfortable– with a discomfort that can last for days. Also, it is important to note that the more naturally occurring enamel you have, the better it is for the overall longevity of your teeth. Once you come to the decision to use Lumineers over dental veneers, you are choosing a solution that typically allows for your enamel to remain intact and is less invasive. These Lumineers are as thin as a contact lens and their size allows them to be placed without requiring your natural teeth to be permanently altered. This makes the overall process of receiving Lumineers faster, more comfortable, and reversible. We have found that our Dublin patients tend to prefer this option for all the reasons listed above.
Other Benefits of Lumineers
Lumineers are unique in that they are highly translucent and precisely 0.2 millimeters in length, allowing them to replicate the natural appearance of a tooth. Another advantage of Lumineers is that they remain resilient and are durable– lasting in some cases over 20 years. They tend to last far longer than other dental restorations. In addition, with Lumineers there are typically no shots or a need to use the dental drill.
The Process of Receiving Lumineers from Sharma Dental Center
You will need to visit our office to discuss the procedure once you have decided to improve your smile with Lumineers. The procedure itself consists of two visits to an authorized certified Lumineers dentist. The first visit will be the initial consultation, during which impressions of both your upper and lower teeth will be taken along with measurements. Afterwards, this information is sent to the Lumineers laboratory complete with photographs and other important records that you can provide. The Lumineers are created on-site by using your specific measurements to ensure that they look natural and fit perfectly. As opposed to traditional veneers, you will not need any shots since there is no requirement to drill and remove the enamel. Additionally, you will not have to wear unattractive acrylic temporaries. The first visit to our Dublin office is more consultative mainly for the purpose of getting the impression that we need in order to make sure that your Lumineers fit perfectly. Concurrently, we will look at the color palette and other factors to ensure that once your Lumineers have been bonded and fitted into place, they look exactly the way you want them to. This final step will take place during the second (or final) appointment.
Note: It is crucial to understand that your Lumineers will function exactly the way your naturally occurring teeth would. There are no dietary restrictions and as long as you continue to keep your teeth healthy and clean, they should last for years to come.
